Poem Courtesy of Shern Chong! For My Bday!

By Shern Chong

She stands alone, right on the line,
being told that following dreams is a crime.

She stands alone, surrounded on both sides,
with eyes on her and she cannot hide.

She walks alone, fearing mistakes,
and the regret and injuries she will make.

She crosses alone, the bridge of dreams,
a foot in numbers, a foot in hymns.

She decides alone, the path before her,
to walk in silence and submission, or dance along in euphoria.

She feels alone, with objections around,
and hears not the whispers and helping hands above the sounds.

She fights alone, against
but this is the gift of human dignity.

She isn't alone, right on the line,
as long as her heart is strong she will be fine.

She isn't alone, surrounded on both sides,
the people with faith in the star she will be, oh so bright.

She isn't alone, fearing mistakes,
for learning is the secret to face her limits to break.

She isn't alone, the bridge of dreams,
is much much closer and vivid than it seems.

She isn't alone, the path before her,
so ahead she steps...there goes the Dancer.

So dance.
